First one I hit a deer and smashed. Replaced it and rode that one for about 7 years. Total of about 90k miles between the two bikes. It was my favorite as a kid, and still one of my favorites. I romanticize about owning another one from time to time.

With time and space you remember the better parts more than the down sides. The real dilemma today is the growing lack of aftermarket support. First and foremost you have to have a decent seat.

Has closed, the owner died. Blue Ridge Sportmax doesn't appear to be making seats anymore, or doing much at all with first gen bikes. The real experts that where there in the beginning are as old as the bike now, and progress has moved on. The new max is just too big. Too cruiser wannabe. I'm thinking my next bike, my idea of what the 'new vmax' should have been, is the Diavel. It's physically feels much like a gen 1, with the improved chassis, brakes, tires etc that I wanted.

Here lots of people made their V Max more Harley like, but in Europe they went more street fighter. And the European V Max scene was always what I found most attractive. I've owned two V Max. I believe it came with a Corbin seat also. DISCLAMIER: Nothing in this document constitutes a guarantee, warranty, or license, express or implied. John Furbur of the infamous 'Furbur Fix' ( to fix the Vmax head shake above 120 ) did mine. The old Kerker 4-1 with comp baffle is the meanest and best sounding pipe on that V4, but aren't made anymore. The UFO made the most power, was too loud for many people, and retained the duel exhaust look, but again is no more. Dale Walker no longer makes a full system. Super Trap, although adding no power, is probably the best way to go today. The motor sounds too good to be corked up with stock mufflers. I don't know if anyone sells frame and fork braces anymore.

And after riding modern bikes, you definitely feel the frame twisting around like a wet noodle So, don't hit any real bumps while leaning into a curve and expect to maintain your line. First and Second gen R1 calipers where an easy brake upgrade, but are no longer that common as even they are old now.

Yamaha factory backrest aren't available from Yamaha anymore. And when they still where, eBay commanded near retail price for used ones. I mean, there is only one V Max.

Is there really any substitute? I've yet to ride a Diavel, I'm not in the market yet. Bike 5k Exhaust 1k Seat 350 Another 1k for some better looking turn signals, and hopefully a fork brace or frame braces and other miscellaneous Almost 7.5k for a bike with crap suspension Crap brakes And acceleration that no longer exceeds a R6?

I think I might just keep my memories.then again. All those faults = character. Engine wise the bike starts, runs and drives exceedingly well. No modifications, well taken care of. The original odometer on the bike began to fail at 8978 mi (MPH became inaccurate) and the former owner replaced it.

The current odometer has 5002 mileage, making the mileage of the bike 13,980. We have the original odometer to show mileage.

Aesthetically the bike is in very good condition. No major dents or dings, no tip overs or crashes.
